KOTA
Situated on the eastern bank of river Chambal, Kota was once the capital of Hada Rajpur Madho Singh. It has founded by the Hada Chieftain, Rao Deva. Kota is fascinating mixture of medieval grandeur and modern industrialization. An Atomic Power Station for nuclear research is situated at Kota. Kota is famous for its saris.

Fort & Palaces
Government Museum : it has a teaser of rare old coin, manuscripts and a representative
selection of Hadoti sculpture. A sculpture depicting Vishnu reclining on the
serpent, Seshnag, with Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth at his feet. This museum
is situated inside the Fort. Open from 10.00 to 17.00 hrs. Friday closed.
The Maharana Madho Singh Museum : This museum is situated in the old palace
inside the Fort. It houses a rich collection of Rajput miniature paintings
of the Kota School, exquisite sculpture, frescoes, arms and other valuable
antiques. Open from 11.00 to 17.00 hrs.
Chambal Garden : This popular picnic spot, has a pond with Garwhal crocodiles.
Jag Mandir : This monument is on a small island in the center of the large
lake. There are royal tombs and curious collection in the Jag Mandir. Boating
facilities are available here.
Excursion :
Baroli : On the way to Pratap Sagar Dam, about 40 km Kota, 9th century temple
complexes are situated at Baroli. In one of the group of temples have rich
carvings.
Darrah Wildlife Sanctuary : About 80 km Kota, deep in a thickly wooded forest,
Darrah used to be a royal hunting preserve. It is now a fine wildlife sanctuary
where panther, spotted deer, tiger, wild boar, and bear roam at will in their
natural habitat. Accommodation is available at Amigarh Palace, only a kilometer
from Darrah Forest Rest House.
Jhalra Patan temples : About 60 km from Kota, Jhalra Patan has ruined but
fine Sun Temple, Jain Temples and Buddhist cave temples.
Air : Indian Airlines flights, four times in a week from Delhi via Jaipur.
Bus : Regular buses to Bundi (40 km), Baroli ( 40 km), Darrah Wildlife Sanctuary
(80km), Jhalra Patan (60 km), Jaipur (246 km), Udaipur (280 km) etc.
LUDRUVA
16 km from Jaisalmer is the deserted ruins of ancient capital, Ludruva. The
Jain temples, rebuilt in late 70's have ornate carved arches at the entrance
and a Kalpvruksha, the divine tree, within.
MOUNT ABU
Mount Abu Hill Resort is a 1200 Meters high plateau with area or 25 sq. km. It is 27 km from Abu Road Railway Station. To and from regular buses are available from Abu Road Railway Station to Mount Abu.
Places of Interest :
Delwara Jain Temple : This Jain Temples are the finest examples of Jain architecture
in India. Where the art of marble carving has been carried to unsurpassed
heights. The older temple is the Vimal Vasahi, which is dedicated to the first
Jain Tirthankar, Adinath and was built in 1031. The central shrine has an
image of Adinath while around the courtyard are 52 identical cells. 48 elegantly
carved pillars form the entrance to the courtyard. In front of the temple
are the figures of elephants marching in procession to the temple entrance.
The other temple is dedicated to Naminath, the 22nd Tirthankar and was built in 1230 by the brothers Vastupal and Tejpal who are the ministers of the ruler of the Gujarat. The most notable feature of Tejpal Temple is the fantastic intricacy and delicacy of the marble carving that the marble becomes almost transparent. In particular the lotus flower, which hangs from the center of the dome is an incredible piece of work. It is difficult to believe that this huge lace-like filigree actually started as a solid block of marble.
Temple is open for tourist from 12.00 to 18.00 hrs.
Nakki Lake : Virtually in the center of Mount Abu plateau, this lake as legend
has it, was dug out by the God with his nail (Nakh). You can hire boats and
row. 14th century Raghunath Temple stands beside the lake.
Adhar Devi Temple : (3 km & 200 steps) this Durga Temple is in a natural
cleft in the rock. You have to stoop down to get through the low entrance
into the temple.
Achalgarh : (11 km) fort of Achalgarh was built by ana Kumbha in the year
1452 A. D. there are ruin palaces in the fort. Jain temples of Adinath &
Kunthunath within the fort and temple of Shantinath at the foot Achalgadh.
Achaleshwar Mahadev temple built in 813 AD, situated near Shantinath Temple.
Achaleshwar Mahadev Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. 900 feet long and 240
feet wide Mandakini Kund (Pond) is situated near Achaleshwar Mahadev.
Gurushikhar : (11 km) Gurushikhar is highest point of Mount Abu, about 5650
feet high. Guru Dattatreya Temple is on Gurushikhar.
Gaumukh Temple : (8 km) in this temple a small steam flows from the mouth
of a marble cow.
Sunset point, Honeymoon Point, the Crags and Robet's \Spur offers a view of
the sunset.
Museum and Art Gallery : Situated on Rajbhavan Road, it is open from 10.00
to 17.00 hrs, daily except Friday.
Conducted Tours ; Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation operates two tours every day, from Tourist Office, Youth Hostel. 1st tour timing : 8.00 to 13.00 hrs, 2nd tour timing : 14.00 to 19.00 hrs. Tour fare Rs.14/- per head. Tour covers Delwara Jain Temple, Achalgarh, Guru shikhar, Nakki Lake, Sunset point and Adhar Devi.

Rail : Abu Road Railway Station is 27 km from Mount Abu.
Bus : Regular buses to Ranakpur, Udaipur, and Ahmedabad. Etc.
NAGUAR
Naguar : 135 km from Jodhpur. An impregnable fort and a grand palace can
be seen here. The palace is rich in murals of Nagaur style within. Nagaur
is especially famous for its annual cattle fair held in January/February.
The village folk gather here at this time of the year to barter or buy cattle.
One can see special breeds of bullocks and camels here from all over India.
NAGDA
Nagda (23 km), (one km from Eklingji) The temple of Sas - Bahu (9th - 10th
century) has intricate carvings including, some erotic figures. Architecture
of Adbudji Jain Temple is interesting.
NATHDWARA
Nathdwara: (48 km from Udaipur and 8 km from Haldighati) This Vaishnava temple
(18th century ) is dedicated to Shri Nathji or Lord Krishna. Thousands of
pilgrims visit this shrine during Diwali, Holi and Janmashtami. ( Note : Foreigners
are not permitted inside temple).
OSIAN
Osian : 6 km from Jodhpur, this ancient town of the Thar Desert, has sixteen
ruined Brahmanical and Jain temples dating from 8th to 11th century. The earlier
temples are spectacular in their originality of composition and sculptural
elegance. The vase and flower motif carved on pillars is best seen here. An
8th century Surya or Sun temple with carved pillars supports a conical roof
and an image of Durga. The 12th century sachiya Mata temple has a large assembly
hall with elaborately carved ceilings and exquisitely sculptured figures of
several Gods. The Mahavir Jain temple stands on a wide terrace with a three-tiered
roof and a Torana gateway. It is supposed to have been built by Vatsaraja
of the Pratihara dynasty.
POKHRAN
Magnificent Rajasthan fortress town is 100 km from Jaisalmer. Tangle of narrow streets with balcony houses decorated with parrots, elephants and peacocks.
